The 2009 British and Irish Lions squad has been named. Whilst it has a big beefy forward pack, the halfbacks, inside centre and back trio shouldn’t pose too much of a threat to the Bokke! But using our tactical nous, and getting the job done has not been a strong point his year so there is still a job to do! (Please don’t repeat 1997!)

Here is the 2009 British and Irish Lions squad

    we need to pick combinations
players need to be picked according to merit/form

our backline needs to learn to run the angles, look for space run into space etc i think percy is a brilliant inclusion

    my players

jp has alot of fullback experience, he can spot a gap,he loves to come in the line and attack with a inside pass

ryno ben this dude has everything,he can tackle, his defence is solid and not to mention his flair and most importantly his attitude our backline need him

ruan pienaar needs to be given a good run

luke watson/hend rouss no6 judge for yourself

scalk burger no7 this is his position. our opposition users his size and his playing qualities against him.

as for the way we play we need to be patient at rucks our players need to be strong on their feet we need to street smart

    try and beat this team

      Hi Ahmed,
Thanks for your team. I agree with you in terms of the way we must play. However I don’t agree with all your selections. I’d go with the more dependable Ludik or Kirchner at fullback.
I’d have Habana and Nokwe on the wings.
      Agree with the midfield
Flyhalf Pienaar, of if injured, Morne Steyn. We don’t have anyone else really. I’d like to see Rose but maybe not against the Lions.
Kockott wouldn’t be in my Springbok team. Makes too many errors, too hotheaded, and doesn’t kick well enough in general play. I’d play Du Preez, with Vermaak as backup.
Spies is way better then Kankowski. Kankowski is a show pony and doesn’t work hard enough. Spies is the real deal, and best number 8 in the world.
Flanks would be Juan Smith and Brussouw. I don’t belive Burger deserves to be in the Boks at the moment. Watson is better as cover, and can also cover all three loose forward positions.
Matfield and Bakkies pick themselves as locks.
I’d agree with your front row. If we had a another tighthead, i’d move Smit to Hooker. Steenkamp wouldn’t let anyone down as loosehead either.
Therefore my bench would be Steenkamp, Sephaka, Danie Rousouw, Watson, Vermaak, Jacobs/Olivier, Kirchner. Only problem is lack of a backup kicker. Rose could take the place of Kirchner then.
