The 2010 Super 14 is eagerly anticipated with a focus on producing ‘more attractive’ rugby.

It is a difficult competition to predict as any side can beat another on a given day, and early momentum can dictate the tournament.

As 2009 winners, the Bulls are intent on defending their championship title, and as my favourite side I believe they can go all the way, although they’ll find it harder than last year!

In the history of Super rugby, only 4 sides have ever won the title, the Crusaders (7), Blues (3), Bulls (2) and Brumbies (2). These sides have tended to dominate their respective domestic competitions too (especially the Bulls and Crusaders), showing the value of experience and a winning habit.

For that reason, and looking at squad depth, I don’t see much change in the pecking order of recent times. I do however think the Stormers are a side on the rise, and the Chiefs will will find it hard to repeat last season’s success. The Lions will get better, whilst the Sharks are in decline.

At the bottom of the table, the Cheetahs, Reds, Force and Highlanders have proven they don’t have what it takes are are usually somewhere near the bottom.

So here goes, my head is on the line and this is what I see happening:

1. Bulls
2. Crusaders
3. Stormers
4. Hurricanes

5. Brumbies
6. Chiefs
7. Waratahs
8. Blues
9. Sharks
10. Lions
11. Highlanders
12. Force
13. Reds
14. Cheetahs
